Mathare North Primary students share smiles and new books with staff from Open Capital and World Vision Kenya

In mid-2024, the community of Mathare North was hit hard by devastating floods that swept through the area, destroying not only homes but also essential infrastructure. Among the most severely impacted were Mathare North Primary School’s students and teachers, many of whom lost their learning materials, textbooks, and even reference books that are critical to the teaching process. This disaster left the school in a state of crisis, with children unable to continue their education and teachers lacking the resources they needed to instruct their students.

In response to this urgent need, Open Capital Ltd stepped forward with a generous donation contributed by their staff members as part of their commitment to supporting communities in times of crisis.
We designated these funds to assist the children and teachers of Mathare North Primary School. This act of solidarity became a lifeline for the school, helping to provide much-needed educational resources that were swept away by the floodwaters.
The support couldn't have come at a more critical time. With over 300 children at the school left without textbooks, their education was put on hold, threatening to widen the learning gap for these young minds who were already facing numerous challenges in their daily lives.

By providing new learning materials, Open Capital's contribution ensured that the children could return to their studies, regain a sense of normalcy, and continue building the foundation of their education. The teachers, too, benefited greatly from this gesture, receiving reference books that are essential for structuring lessons and improving the overall learning experience.

Looking Ahead: A Continued Partnership for Change

This successful collaboration between Open Capital and World Vision highlights the importance of partnerships in responding to crises and supporting vulnerable communities. By joining forces, We were able to make a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of children and their teachers, empowering them to continue their education despite the setbacks caused by the floods.

As we continue with our efforts to support vulnerable children, this donation serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when communities, corporations, and organizations come together with a shared vision for positive change.

With ongoing support, the students at Mathare North Primary School will be able to pursue their dreams and work toward a brighter future, knowing that their education is valued and protected.

We are deeply grateful for Open Capital’s contribution and the lasting impact it has had on the Mathare North community.
